Intratec Data Recovery services the whole of the Johannesburg area. Whichever part of Johannesburg you are located in, if you have a data loss problem we are always there to assist you. Data loss can occur at the snap of a finger – the cause can be something as mundane and frustrating as a sudden dip in the power voltage, or a lightning strike several kilometres away from you. When it happens, it happens, and theirs is little you can do about it. However, you can do things to make data recovery easier. You can make regular backups for a start – but make them to some storage medium that you can keep remote from the computer you’re backing up. If you’re using a program such as MS Word you can alter the settings so that it makes its own backups every, say, two minutes.

Data loss is one of Information Technology industry’s most misunderstood concepts. Very little information has been made public about data loss, and the information that does exist is inconsistent. Due to the mixed messages they receive, users find it difficult to properly evaluate their data loss situations and make educated decisions to recover from them.
Most lost data is not lost at all; it has simply become inaccessible to the user. Hundreds of thousands of gigabytes (GB) of data have been lost simply because users were not aware of their options and gave up hope of recovery.

One of the reasons why Francois de Jager and his brother Chris started this data recovery company was because of the continual increase in the number of occasions when people lost data from their computers. There are a number of reasons why data can be lost. You could be the victim of a virus or malware attack – this is becoming more and more widespread these days, and you should always have the latest software to counter possible attacks loaded on your computer. Power spikes and dips occur all too frequently, sometimes because of the power company and sometimes for other reasons, like thunderstorms. In order to minimize this risk you should have a UPS between your machine and the mains outlet. That would minimize the chances of your having to call a data recovery company.
Intratec Data Solutions was started in Cape Town in the year 2000, and in eight short years has developed into the leading data recovery company in South Africa. The success of our operation in Cape Town led to us opening a branch in Johannesburg in 2006 and a further branch in Durban this year. Our commitment to our customers has always been of prime importance. We are fully aware that when we are called out to a client it is usually not the client’s best day – in fact they are frequently at their wit’s end when they first call us. But that’s what a data recovery company is for, and every one of our staff is committed to providing the best possible service to our clients.

Most people are very nervous about messing around with source code, machine code and anything that is written directly onto a hard drive. It is possible though for you to carry out file recovery yourself, if you know what you are doing. There id software on the market that you can use to carry out simple data repairs, again, if you know what you are doing. If you are uncertain or nervous about playing about with coded files – leave it to the experts. File recovery is what they are trained in and what they do every day. Intratec was started up in 2000 specifically as a data recovery company. We are very aware that the loss of data can cripple a business. Many companies rely 100% on their databases and would find it impossible to operate without them.
The simplest way to avoid data loss is to take early preventative measures. Larger companies use specialist operating systems where any data written to disc is written at least twice, so that file recovery becomes a simple job. Smaller companies are usually the hardest hit when they lose data. It is usually the smaller companies or individuals who have a carefree attitude towards backing up their data, something that should be an extremely important task that is done daily, weekly and monthly. File recovery becomes much simpler when there are backups to turn to. If you have any enquiries about how to go about backing up your data, we will be happy to advise you.

Most of us have accidentally deleted an important document that we have been working on for a significant time, and usually when that happens we are both totally embarrassed and feel extremely foolish. But it happens – most of the time it’s not our fault. Data loss can be caused by a variety of reasons other than accidental deletion. It can happen because of a power dip or surge, it can happen because of a virus, there may be component failure in your computer, or there could even be physical damage due to some outside source. Either way, in most cases data recovery is possible. In fact, it is because data loss has become more and more of a problem, that data recovery companies such as this one have evolved.
There are one or two steps that you can take yourself to minimize the risk of data loss. The first and obvious one is to make frequent backups of your data – not only that, if you use a program like MS Word as your word processor, go into the saving options in your tools menu and set up the program to automatically save and make backups every, say, two minutes. This will ensure that there is always a backup of the document you are working on at the time. Data recovery is frequently necessary following a violent thunderstorm, and we recommend that computers be switched off in such circumstances. If you do find yourself in the unfortunate position of needing a data recovery expert to assist you, give us a call.
