- Check your recycle bin for the file. If it is still there, simply double click the item and click restore to restore the file to its original location, or drag and drop the file onto your desktop or another folder.
- The longer that a file has been deleted the less of a chance you have of recovering it, so it is not always possible to recover a deleted file.
- Some data recovery programs are free, while others cost money, so be sure to find one that works best for you.
- Always backup your personal data to an External Hard Drive, CD/DVD or other kind of media in the event of an accident.

Many organisations rely entirely upon databases today – more so than the majority of us realize. Databases have become such a vital part of our lives that we tend to take them for granted. Databases are used every day by:
- School and University Marks Databases
- Police – Profiles of criminals, DNA and fingerprints
- Libraries, Chain stores, Estate agents, Banks, Brokers, Air traffic control
- Thousands of blogs
- On line stores
The list is endless. Databases have become such a part of our daily lives that for one to fail can mean disaster for an organization if the data is not recovered speedily. Quick and efficient database recovery is essential, and there are professionals such as ourselves who can do this. It follows then that it is vitally important that an organization should make regular backups of their databases or have the data stored in such a way that it can be recovered easily, by using RAID configurations, for example. The time that it takes for data recovery and its cost to you will depend on several factors. To give an easy example, the recovery of a single file that you have accidentally deleted yourself can be so simple that it could probably be recovered by you, yourself, if you knew just a little about computers.
At the other extreme, if some physical element inside a hard drive has been damaged or broken, or if the surface of the magnetic media has been damaged, this would mean dismantling it in our clean room and this is usually a very involved and lengthy process.
The cost to you would be proportional to the amount of work carried out, whom it was carried out by, and the cost of any replacement parts. If you need a quotation or need further information regarding data loss, contact us on 083 415 5154

The Internet or the World Wide Web as it’s sometimes called is nothing less than a vast collection of data that is stored in millions of hard drives all around the world. Today’s “Information Age” runs on data, so the storage of that data is very important, not necessarily just to the owner of that data source, but potentially to many people around the world. Imagine what would happen if Google crashed – well, it has in the past and it may well do so again, with disastrous results. People rely upon their data storage, but sometimes a hard drive fails, and then it’s time to call in recovery professionals. Hard drives can fail for all sorts of reasons. It could be a mechanical cause such as a head failure, it could be because of a thunderstorm, or it could be a malicious attack by a virus or other malware. Whatever the reason, there are recovery professionals out there to assist.
Not so long ago there was no such thing as hard drive recovery professionals, but the advance of Information Technology has necessitated that such a profession should have evolved. Today most major urban centres have at least one good hard drive recovery professional service.
One such organization is Intratec, who have bases in Cape Town, Durban and Johannesburg. If and when you experience a hard drive failure, you could do far worse than contact this company. We had such a failure just a few weeks ago, and within 24 hours, they had us up and running again as though nothing had happened. It’s good to be able to call upon a company you can rely on.
