Only a few years ago, when computers and the Internet were in their infancy, we used to store all our data on paper. Letters were carefully stored in lever-arch files, photographs were kept in envelopes, which in turn were stored in shoe boxes or some other convenient receptacle. Now that we have personal computers and the Internet, we use a keyboard to write our letters and these are sent electronically over the World Wide Web. All of our data, that’s letters, photographs, and so on, can be stored on our computers. It can therefore become traumatizing if we lose them or if they are damaged in any way.
