The loss of data from your computer can be caused by a number of reasons. One of the more common reasons is malware or virus attack. Voltage peaks or dips are also a common cause of data loss. Invariably such a loss comes when you least expect it and always at the most inconvenient time. In order to minimise such losses taking place in the first place there are two or three precautions you can take:
- Always make regular backups of your data
- Run a good antivirus program
- Attach a UPS (uninterrupted power supply) to your PC – if this is not possible then isolate the PC and telephone lines whenever there is a magnetic storm nearby. Taking these precautions will make it all the easier to recover lost files, should that happen.
Assuming that the loss has taken place, you now have to recover the lost files. It is sometimes possible for you to do this yourself when the loss is small, and one of our technicians will talk you through this if necessary. Most of the time though, we are going to have to take in the computer’s hard drive, evaluate the damage, and see how much work will be involved in recovering the lost files. We will always give you a quote before proceeding with recovery. Exactly how much data we are able to recover will depend on the cause and the nature of the damage – it may be possible to recover all of your data.
