Not so very long ago, backups and restore operations were carried out in DOS – there are probably comparatively few people using computers today who ever had to do backups in that way. When Windows first came along, some of the basic operatives such as backup and restore were carried over from DOS. So from early times, backups were considered to be extremely important, as they are today. If using a computer is an integral part of your job, then you must know how to backup and restore computer files. If you don’t know how to do that, get someone to teach you how – today – it’s that important. There are any number of ways in which you can lose data. Files can get damaged or deleted by computer viruses, by power hiccups, or even by accidental deletion. Being able to restore computer files should be something that comes easily to you.
The first time you do a backup it’s probably going to be a pretty major affair, because you’re going to have to copy all of your data files onto a CD, or onto whatever medium you have decided upon. Once you have your master backup, thereafter it will just be a case of backing up any new files you create or any changes to old files that you make. Once you have your backups it will be easy to restore computer files at any time in the future that you have a lost data problem. Being able to backup and restore computer files should come completely naturally to you.
